Salmon fishing early August ?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Salmon fishing early August ?

Post by kingofbeasts »

Hi, I'm planning a 10 days trip to the Eastern Provinces together with my wife at the beginning of August , and we were wondering , is it worth it to pay for a salmon permit and try the salmon rivers along the way in this period or not? It is a car /camping trip and we will leave From Ottawa and go as far as we can get in that period of time , so we might have two chances to fish each river ( on the way to and on the way back). It is not a fixed route for us to travel on so, if you have any suggestions for salmon fishing spots or just nice places to stop and admire on the road towards PEI , we will really appreciate any tips (and tricks). Good places to stop and eat on the way are also appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Well, having grown up fishing salmon and guiding on the Miramichi, I can tell you this.
If you are planning on fishing salmon in NB, a non-resident license is required and a guide is mandatory. Most good salmon water in NB is privately owned. The fishing is also 100% dependent on the water temperature and along with that, the water levels. Right now, the water in the Miramichi is low and warm and the cold water pools have been shut down by MNR to let the fish rest and to avoid any pressure on them.
Not alot of salmon fishing in PEI.
NS has good rivers, again, dependent on the same variables. However, I am not sure about their requirement for a guide. You would have to check the local reg's to see if a guide is required. I don't believe it is, but best to check in advance.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
I'll never apologize for being a hunter (or a fisherman)!
