Started off the new years right and spent the last couple days in the back lakes, needless to say the brook trout bite was on. Set up our tip ups with minnows in 6-10fow. Cloud cover and cold weather brought in a hot bite and we caught 35+ fish averaging 9”. Second day we went back to the same lake to try and find that same bite. It was still hot but, not as good, still landing us a couple keepers each.
Was very happy to see the ministry, we had everything in check. Wish we could see them more often to propect our beautiful fisheries. They do the best they can, unfortunately they can’t be everywhere at once. Respect what we have, it can be lost quick. The amount of garbage on the lake was disgusting. Make sure to clean up ALL OF YOUR GARBAGE when you leave. Thank you to the ministry once again.
My buddy Aiden managed to get big fish of the day both days. Pulling in two 12”, one each day. Check the photos for the beautiful male from day 2.
Happy fishing all in the 2019 season!!
Keepers from day 1. We both took home our limits.
Keepers from day 2. Kept a couple to put in the freezer.
My buddy’s beautiful 12” male.

Well done! I'm hoping to fish one of those lakes in the spring, when the fish should be a little bigger, but I don't think any will survive the ice fishing onslaught.

Very nice, congrats!

I'm really, really jealous. I went brook trout fishing yesterday with the family and unfortunately we didn't do half so well. Congrats!
I'm sure you must have eaten some that first night to stay under the provincial possession limit with your keepers on the second day. I remember spring trips in Algonquin where we had to eat up as many speckles as we could every night so we could keep more the next day.

Everything was eaten the first night lol. It’s always nice to eat what you catch same day and be able to go back for more the next day!Piscivore wrote:I'm really, really jealous. I went brook trout fishing yesterday with the family and unfortunately we didn't do half so well. Congrats!
