Decided to make a last minute trip up too Petawawa to fish the Ottawa river. I did some Navionics searching and found a nice neck down point were I thought the bait fish would collect. So we headed there. Target species was walleye. We start out casting/jiggin. Not long and my fishing partner Chris hooks into something.
Not much luck after that. So we decided to try our luck trolling. I start with leadcore and a crank. Chris with a bottom bouncer, spinner rig and worm. Very quickly he hooks into something decent.
We trolling around for a bit longer. Few bites but nothing landed. So we decided to switch up and do some bass fishing. I spotted a small inflow into the river so we decided to go there. The small mouth were schooled up like crazy on it. We then proceed to land some nice small mouth cast after cast for about 1.5 hours.
After the smallmouth bite dies we go back to walleye. The wind picked up so we thought the chop might be good. We proceed to land 5 or so small walleye between the two of us. Before we head home.
We believe this to be a saugeye but not 100% sure. Ottawa River

Re: Ottawa River
The white tail tip makes it a Walleye.
Looks like a beautiful day to be out on the water...any fish are just a bonus !
