Big Rideau lake trout

I made it out this weekend again. Bit of a slower day but ended up finding the fish. Got a 30in laker, my pb from the Rideau but it was really skinny.

Exact same presentation. Slid a bit deeper. Mostly in 80-120. Also moved out of bays into main lake.

I have to say this. This report was one of the most informative posts that I have seen over the years. Was a time when a great number of people would share where, when, what and why about their recent experience on the water. While this forum is loaded with gold plated fisher people, not enough posts shared their wealth of knowledge as did this post. A weekend warrior needs more information from others to make up for the time he/she can't be on the water due to family responsibilities. We all know that catching fish is an unbelievable experience for everyone. No one loses that excitement when the bobber goes down, or the top water bait is hurled out of the water , or that hookset into a hog. But we also know that not catching fish can turn the novices and young people off. Ask any
parent our there about having their child join them on the water and you see their eyes light up. So what am I getting at. It is this,
if the weekend warrior is better educated by your experience that same person can put their child/friend on fish. It grows the sport and the more time on the water the less time to get into mischief. I sincerely hope I have not offended members or staff with this observation. Thankyou

Great post Still Chasing. The purpose of Fish-Hawk is to share information and that is why I took over the website last summer. There are lots of FB fishing groups out there, but 99% of the posts are just fish pictures with no information or links to check out the latest hopeful YouTube millionaire. LOL

You can share useful information with other anglers, without "blowing up" a fishing spot or giving away your honey hole you spent 10 years finding. We have many. many very knowledgeable anglers on Fish-Hawk, and I encourage everyone to consider posting their fishing trips and tips, we can all learn something from each other.

In anticipation of opening this weekend I thought I would bring this post back up. I’ll be hitting the Rideau Sunday morning, using these same techniques. Hopefully they work again this year. If anyone gets out Saturday let me know how the bite is!

I made it out Sunday morning with my buddy Chris onto the big Rideau. I go out every opening weekend on the Rideau so we have our spots and lures already picked out.

We leave the boat launch at about 6 and make the 20-30min run to the spot. We set up to start “sharpshooting” the lake trout.

Chris lands the first one and not much after I get mine.

Chris is fishing a large chartreuse tube about 6in with a trailer hook. I’m running a acme hyper rattle as usual.

We land a couple more fish jigging then decided it was time to try some trolling as the bite was dying down. We mange to land couple more decent ones and also beat my PB

PB smallest lake trout that is!!!
Water temps were right around 60 degrees the fish were caught in 50-60ft in the early morning then by 10-11ish they had slid down closer to 100ft.

Awesome Chase!!! I gotta get me one of those hyper rattles...any weight/color combo you recommend?? I'm going Laker fishing in Georgian bay end of June and we normally fish in the 60-80 depth, so thinking the 2.5" 1oz would be best. I don't have spot lock, so I gotta get it down as quick as possible to get on them...

What do you do to stay on top of them without spotlock, especially when it's a bit windier?

That’s the size I run. Perch colours seem to work good. I do upsize the tremble and put on a high quality one. I don’t have spot lock either but I use a tiller boat. So I keep the motor running and just back into the wind and shift between forward and reverse as needed. Takes some practice. I’ve also had luck on extremely windy days drift jigging with the wind. Using a bucket to slow down. There’s drift socks that work too but I’m cheap.
