Full Moon Muskies

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Full Moon Muskies

Post by RJ »

Hey Folks,

I was watching and waiting for this day for weeks....temps dropping...full moon....turned on bite.... :D :D

But woke up to an east wind...and a cold front... :? :x

Had the night planned with Gordo up in our stomping grounds....the Ottawa at Arnprior...

Started off trolling our way out as the wind was creating quite a stir on the river.....Gordo mentions many times he thinks the Head Pond is a better choice with the way the wind was....I could tell he wasn't too sure about our night at that point...

Got onto an area I had decided would be our area for the night....12-15ft of water....access to shallows for feeding....rock-weed mixed....

Gordo started it off with a nice pike....33 inches...

Image

Well the skunk was off.... :D

Next up was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...

Planning our Quinte trip we planned on buying some planer boards....so we did....we talked about taking them out one night to get used to using them....so I pulled it out of the box....threw on a 8 inch perch beleiver and let it out.....we were watching it laughing about what a musky strike may do to it.....references to Jaws taking down the barrel drew a big laugh between us....5 minutes later Gordo is taking care of a problem with too much water in his system off the bow...and WHAM!...bye bye planer board!...    FISH ON!....netted her....snapped a pic and let her go.... a real fat 38 inches...

Image

Image

Started up our pass again.....with the sun down now we were planning on heading back shortly....Gordo says...just head up there and then we'll turn around...sure did pay off for him!....his biggest skie ever...Congrats Gordo!

38 inches again...on a Brown Bucktail spinnerbait

Possibly the nicest photo I've ever taken!

Image

Image

with the bite seeming to be hot....we decided to cast for a bit...I've been determined to get a fish on topwater all season....black topraider!...finally!

39 incher.....in the dark... :D :D :D

Image

the kicker of the night came on the way back in.....fish hits my 10 inch black beleiver....2 pound walleye....he was hungry I guess...

Image

All in all.....a great way to start the fall season....

If ya get a chance take advantage of the full moon....next three days should be great!

WOW! It's the reason we go fishing 60 or 70 times a year isn't it? So 3 or 4 of those times can be like that time?

WOuld it be considered fishing envy if I say that I can remember another time that RJ and Gordo had last spring? Walleyes? Spectacular pictures of beautiful fish.

And Gordo - that photo with the sunset is for sure a calendar shot.

OK, Fishhawk: you brought it up again, not me (for once)! Are we going to get a FH calendar going? Remember, Bacon offered his services as centerfold model!

Thanks guys! I broke to the news to my wife last night that we have our Christmas card photo for the year! :D What a great night. The kicker wasn't RJ getting that 'eye it was when he said " WALLEYE!!! What are yo doing hitting this!" It was an awesome night and that pic is on its way to being mounted (8X10)
