Our visit to the Bass Pro Shop

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Our visit to the Bass Pro Shop

Post by Pink Lady »

Markus had an appointment in Toronto today, so we decided to take the kids out of school for the afternoon and tag along. The plan was to visit the new Bass Pro Shp in Vaughan.

I have to admit, taking Markus to a place like this is as dangerous as swimming with great whites off the great barrier reef! But I thought it would be safer if I supervised his visit.

The store itself is a marketing and retail success story. End to end drooling men and gorgess merchandised products as far as the eye could see. Clearly the jewel of all mens stores.

We picked up some new tackle, hunting supplies, boat supplies and a little bit of clothes. The girls were so taken with all the taxidermy in the store.
Image

The fish aquarium was a huge hit too. The girls could actually identify more fish species in it then I could. Walleye, smallmouth, catfish, rainbows, carp, bluegill, crappie, largemouth, perch, pike and a muskie all in the same big tank. Very neat.

We got out of there with minumal damage to the bank account, but I see I'm going to have to accompany markus on all his future appointments in Toronto!

Hey PL... Had a close friend visit the store on opening weekend...said it was absolutely amazing. You can easily spend a day there checking out all the neet stuff....can't wait to go!!! They met Bob Izumi and said that 90,000 people went thru the store on Sunday. WOW!!!! They were good enough to bring me back a fishing & hunting catalogue........CAN'T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS !!! :D :D

Snag, it was an awesome experience, but that's all it was to me. It's more of an "event" going there then it is to buy stuff. That just keeps happening while your there!

I'll of course stick to my local guy, he's always had my full support. Their the ones that haelp us build the fishing community in our towns. But everyone should experience the BPS. Simply put, it's awesome.

Cute pic's, PL & Markus. :P

As I've said before, BPS is not going to change your life, but it makes for a fun experience. Our boys love to go there, too & it's amazing how well the 7 yr old knows his fish, just like your girls!

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Don't forget about the local shops

Post by JP »

I know everyone is excited to go and check out the new toy store, but just remember that the local shops here have been taking care of our needs with great service for many years. Saying that, I will, I'm sure end up heading that way eventually to check it out for a look see, but I still believe we should continue to support places like Paddletails, Bait Casters, Manotic bait and more.
Just my 2 cents
Great pics PL.

Fishing Freak, I found the prices OK. Some things were a bit more, but there's tons of specials.

PL bought some a camo outfit for her brothers new born baby and she found it a bit pricey.

I agree it's nice to visit this kind of store but nothing beats the chat and cuppaa coffee with my local provider (s). I'm quite satisfied with the people here in Ottawa. If they do not carry something I can get it from another or if I have time to wait I can order it in. Prices are competitive so why change?

As Bacon, Gorf, JP, and Dana have said, We wont stop going to our local shops, or atleast I know I wont  Just because BPS is now open

Sure if I am in the area I will check it out and if I see somethin that grabs my eye for the price, heck I'll buy it

But for other orders I see the wait from our local shops to order alot better than a 5hr trip to go buy it for the smae price but toss in 50$ worth of gas

Just rambelin, and awsome pics Pinkers :D

Beauty eh?!

Having been to one in Chicago and one in Orlando, I'm looking forward to seeing how the one in TO stacks up.

Nice pics PL.
Markus, how are we gonna sneak off for the next trip?
(Honey, just going out to pick up some milk. I'll be back in a little while ... like Tuesday)

I went to BPS on Sat. and it is an awesome sight as it resembles a lodge. Otherwise you still have to know your prices cause some stuff is cheaper. I believe that some of the prices are down just to increase added draw of customers but over time they will creep up. It should also keep some locals a little more honest with their prices with the competition cause as we all know we have gone to reputable shops and found the price of a bait/lure that is much desired quite pricey. I don`t want Ontario to lose any of our smaller shops because the atmosphere.
Just my couple of cents.
ps if you haven`t been it is worth it... I went just to see the 2 big largemouth in the aquarium.....one was about 13 lbs and the other around 10lbs so I was told... WOW
