Anyone else make their own lures?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I've been making my own baits for many years. You're right, it's a great feeling to catch one on a bait you made yourself, but when someone else has the confidence to run your baits well....

Also try:

the forums at www.tackleunderground.com
our forum at www.reprobaitlures.com/forum

There's lots of suppliers and lots of things you can make yourself instead of buying.

Actually make my own gang trolls, buzzbaits and smaller, spinners, worm harness rigs. Nothing like having a successful outing with your own stuff.

The gang trolls are great. The buzzbaits need work but still work. The spinner/harness rigs are great.

I make the trolls and spinners primarily for my Trout outings in the spring.

The website that sells Woodie Baits is http://www.muskiebaytacklecompany.com/

Just go down to Woodie and click on the banner, it will give you all the colours and varities the company makes....

I make my own worm harnesses, use fireline, Gamakatsu hooks and SPRO swivels....now nothing get's away!!!! LOL!!

I get all my supplies from Luremaking.com
they are very helpful if you have to give them a call with questions...

I use many of the suppliers that you guys use ie. www.luremaking.com, B&B Baits, Stamina and a few that don't sell retail.

If you're looking for advice on muskie and pike lure making, check out my non-commercial site www.geocities.com/out2llunge.

I can also provide a link to those interested in a musky and pike lure making DVD, but it's on my commercial site and I don't want to spam this board.

I get mine from B&B Baits in Erieau, Ont...I no doubt spelled that wrong. It's down Markus' way I believe. I mail order them usually.

Download this PDF, if you can't find what you need to know in there then let me know what you want to make because it probably doesn't exists yet and I'd like to know what it is.

I used this guide and follow it when ever I make my own.

Here's a few big trollers I have made for Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Muskelunge.

Big lures for big fish. One draw back is that you need Superman arms to hold the rod for any amount of time.

BBB,

PM me whenever you like. I'll do my best to answer your questions. Although I primarily make muskie gear, I have made baits for many species over the years.

Hello Bassstalker,
I have not had alot of opportunity to try them past doing the testing to see if they would act like other lures (float upright, wiggle, dive, etc...) However, while testing I did have a bit of action on the perch and the lota lota. It was promising enough to keep making other models. I have had far more action from collectors wanting to purchase them. They take along time to make so are rather expensive. Most people don't use them for fishing but keep them as folk art or conversation pieces.

I am hoping that 2005 will give me more free time to do more fishing. with the newer models.

Thanks for your interest.

Greg
