My main ice fishing hole is at the mouth of the Nation and Castor in Casselman like Gordo was saying theres lots of nice walleye there pike and perch. Might go couple times to Wendover for walleyes pike, and maybe Bainsville in Lake St Francis for perch. And try to do more tournament this winter.
By the way did fish-hawk gone have a ice fishing derby this year.

I am going to start constructing an ice hut. It wont be huge but big enough to put a stove in it. This will be my second winter fishing the Ottawa. I will be setting up down river from Buckham's bay across from the marina. Last year I caught lots of walleye there. In fact I did better in the winter than the summer. One thing about the spot I fish in the winter is that it is only good for walleye. In the summer I catch walleye, pike, bass and cats there but not in the winter. Not sure why? The odd ling comes up too.

Ice action
Petrie... ahhh the life ....
This year I am going to try to plant a hut out over a nice spot I have GPS coords on that produces fish in the summer. I like action while on the ice and last year where I was fishing it was slow....
Petrie is a great spot but man sometimes the action can leave you wondering if there are fish in the Ottawa.
If I could figure out how to get there I would maybe try to fish the upper end of Petrie where it begins to get deeper .... I hear good things from a few locals on how that was an area that really produced but no one fishes anymore since the cutoff access to the upper bay from the end of Orleans Boulavard. I guess there used to be a launch there too... and you could drive on.
Will probably get everything started in Crappie Bay this year... but with the new layout you can no longer drive on. They put up barriers. Nice big parking lot now but no more access for driving on.... Walleye Bay is still accessable by vehicle. Guess that means a lot more people over on that bay this year.
It is hard for me to go anywhere else when Petrie is so close... but I would like to try Mississippi off of 9a this year a few times. I hear that the action there can be ok. Shirleys is always there but I spent way too many years there.... fish bite at 6am and 4pm the rest of the day you might as well go home.

Woodsman, man, I always forget all about Wildwood. Good call, do you have much experience there. Every winter as I drive by I notice many fishing right by the highway, is this the only spots that the fish congregate?
Also, a guy i know was saying Fanshawe Lake is good for walleyes since they stock it, any experience there?

Icefishing is basically near the dam(highway). Mostly small pike & perch. A few years back I caught a 17 lb'er though the ice and about 20 mins later and not far away a slightly larger one was caught. I don't have any info on Fanshawe but I used to work for Upper Thames so maybe I can check with some friends for some info.
Best Wishes

I plan on having the wooden shack on the walleye bay @ Petrie (walleye less bay last winter) but will probable fish the crappie bay the most with the fish trap so as to be mobile. Plan to target mostly panfish which is usually a sure thing but will always have a tip up out with a monstrous bait on it on the off chance a big pike or musky is cruising the shallows munching on panfish.
Would like very much to fish the upper reaches @ Petrie that Seaweed mentioned particularly @ the end of Champlain street where Petrie island begins, a great low light spot but as soon as it gets light not a fish to be found (many stories of double digit walleye being caught there @ dusk).
I would also like to fish Constance Lake again, used to fish it twenty years ago with great luck. But as time goes by the though of a long drive to catch a few hammer handle pike and the occasional perch seems to loose it’s appeal. I live so close to Petrie (2 minute drive no highway) it’s hard to imagine going anywhere else.
I should be on the ice @ Petrie within the next two weeks and if any Hawk talkers are out please stop by the fish trap and say hello (I have a one man and a two man fish trap and a yellow Jiffy ice auger and if it’s no –40c will try and wear my Fish hawk hat). I would welcome bumping into friendly people on the ice which has in the past has not been the norm.
I was wondering if there has been any though on Fish Hawk winter hats. I would gladly buy a few if they were available.

Two shacks
Well I've got a permanent, as well as one of the Dewalt model Ice Shacks... I think I'll put the permanent one on the Nation, closer to home (Limoges) and I'll bring the portable with me to Petrie... that way I can pull it onto Crappie bay.
Can someone who knows where the Castor meets the Nation, please PM me. I'd like some more details as to where the Launch is to get on the ice.
