Rideaufish, just try it on a warm winters day when the locals are congregating on their favourite hole. That way you can always find a vacant hole or two that hasn't frozen over so you won't have to buy an auger or ice spud. If you're just trying it for the first time just bring a spool of ice fishing line, a few teardrop jig or hooks, and some bait. Flashers, ice shacks, gas augers, and the like are all toys to make the experience more enjoyable but aren't necessary for your initial crack at icefishing. Or make the journey to Ottawa and we'll so you how it's done

Hi W.I.G.
It would be great to get ya on ice be it the wooden shack on the big bay or the portable shack for crappie and bluegill. Salmon in the warmer months sounds much better and would love to take you up in that!
I will be fishing Petri this Saturday if all goes well, another cold night like last night and were golden!
I will P.M. you when there is enough ice, seem to remember you were not crazy enough for first ice.
P.S Topwater, Big O, Carlco, John and any other person crazy enough to come out Saturday I will hit the ice with my buddy Dave at first light. Will check the ice thickness Wed. or Thursday and post if not enough to walk on. I was hoping to bring some fatter friends to walk out first but no luck so far. L.O.L.[/quote]

For the most part, I am with you Don.DonD wrote:An alarm goes off as soon as the temp. dips below 0..I head straight for the couch and wait till April...I then awaken, and look outdoors, if there is snow still on the ground, I head right back to the couch.
But now that I have my electric socks ... the world is my oyster.
