Need info. Misses Livewell is sneaking out this morning for last minute groceries.

What kind of oil is best for the deep fryer?

I use what ever is cheapest..... seems to work well :D best place to get the oil is costco

We ain't fighting with Costco today. So it'll be the bulk aisle at Loblaws.

Any idea how much oil we'll need to cook a 16lb bird?

Only cook fish and never 16 pounds worth! (I wish I had 16 pounds of fish to cook :roll: )

The higher the smoke point the better. Oils break down with each use, lowering their smoke point, so an oil with a higher smoke point will let you re-use the oil multiple times.

Although I haven't seen it on the market here yet (it's a fairly new product), rice bran oil is supposed to be an incredible oil. Very light, healthy, and a very high smoke point ~490F. If you ever see it in a shop, it's probably worth a try.

As a walleye guide in the north, we used solely Canola oil for shore lunch. Less potential for allergic reaction, and it is one of the "healthier" options out there.

10 - W - 30.........except on real cold days..........Then use canola. High smoke point.
