Oakborne,

Believe that's the Great Grey fellow again. That's a great pic. You can really see its eye color, detail in the feathers, and get a sense for its impressive size. (Don't pet the nice owly, kiddies, or your apt to lose a finger...) Petrie mice must be shaking in their little white boots.

It flew across Crappie bay, then about 5 feet above the heads of my wife and Ranson. Took the pic as i was leavin, he was onto a squirl and was about 25-30 feet from me, gave a whistle so he turned his head.

This is too wierd. Today on the way to Buckham's, I see a big bird flying low towards the road from my left. I realize it's likely an owl so I slow down as he landed on top of a snowfence post, about 4 ft from the road. I pull off directly opposite him and he doesn't budge. My first thought, damn camera's in the back of the truck. Wolfe would love this shot.

None the less, I stayed there, about 15-20 ft from this awesome looking bird. He just kept turning his head, 90 degrees, back and forth, looking at me every second turn. Just a real treat to see. So I figure, dang, I gotta try. I open the truck door, he jumps off the post to the ground. I figure he was beating it outta there. He just stayed, that is until I closed the truck door D'oh  Off he goes...What a beauty :!:

That's great, WIG. I appreciate your effort! There's another Murphy's Law with regard to cameras: they're never handy when you've got the perfect shot, and when you do finally get them in hand, the animal/bird is off like a rocket!

Sounds like a neat experience, though. I haven't seen an owl in quite some time. Plenty of hawks, though.
