Slow day at Petrie!!!
Slow day at Petrie!!!
Went fishing in Walleye bay from 8 to 1:30.... not a single bite.
We tried a variety of methods (Teardrops w/ maggots, jigs w/ live, and not so live minnows, pikeral rig w/ minnows, plastic jig) and still nothing.
Talked to a couple of other guys in Bait Shop Bay and also said the day was slow (but what a nice size crowd on the ice!!!).
So what am I doing wrong?? I've been skunked twice now in Walleye bay, about 200 yards from the entrance.

yup
Big-O had a really nice (and legal - funny several folks walked by, shaking their heads when they saw the bass on the ice) bass, 2.5 for sure - would have been yummy i am sure.
Nighttroller did well on the panfish too, and his buddy.... well he was there. First day on the ice, 3 feet from NT, same gear- line/jig etc and NT pulls in one after another... he had one.... not his fault... fish just not playing ball...
Good to meet you!

Yeah, it was slow for me at Petrie today. But not for Slushpuppy! She nabbed a nice pike in Crappie Bay and later on Walleye bay, lost a real monster pike right at the hole
Nice to see a few Hawktalkers out there today. Enjoyed Big-O's Montreal story. Slush will post some pics later.

I'm a goin' fishin', mama's goin' fishin' and my baby's goin fishin' too.

Re: yup
Just to clarify, at this time of the year, in this area, bass is legal only on the Ottawa river.jazman wrote:Big-O had a really nice (and legal - funny several folks walked by, shaking their heads when they saw the bass on the ice) bass,
Here's a pic of my 22" pike, back to the water it went to grow bigger and bigger:
Yes, caught another one on Walleye Bay and it was MUCH bigger

I think this the third or fourth post like this "slow day a petrie"
your not doing anything wrong you just missed the boat. as soon as the ice was think enough there was a fish-hawk parade travelling down there every day for about 4 weeks. your not doing anything wrong it just that there are no more fish in there until the water freezes again next year. you half to get up really early if you want to beat the parade. from the resent posts I'd say get yourself out to mississippi really quick before the same happens there. just look for the ice that looks like swiss cheese.

I can say i have never went to petrie and had a bad day exept for last night !! jig-head and i went to bucketmouths shack in baitshop bay in search of some walleye , i didnt get a hit . Jig-head caught a 15 incher and lost about a 4 pounder at the hole as i reached down to grab her. all in all it was still a nice day and i cant wait to get out on tuesday. Now crappie bay is a different story , lately i have not been able to find a decent school of crappie anywhere, but the gills and perch seem to like what i put infront of them. I dont even remember the last time i had a slow day at petrie exept for last night.
