flouro carbon leaders/line

Ohh okay thanks JP, I wasn't clear from your post whether you had used it as a main line or leader. I'll have to give it a shot this season!

FFF. I have used Berkley Vanish for three seasons and just did the Niagara with the new Vanish Transition, Transition is visible out of the water, kind of gold colour in UV rays, as soon as its wet, its vanish again. Nice when your trying to make sure youve got a direct strait line on a drift or when insuring bottom contact.'I drifted with 8 lb

As far as rigging, I use Vanish as the main line, 14- 17 lb on a mooching reel all the time , except when the fleas force me to switch for a few weeks. I have proved to myself over and over, that it will out fish other lines and when using it as a main line you reduce knots. Its not really that expensive. I think I paid under $20.00 CAD for a 33o yd spool. I use it as a leader when using a braid on a dippsy. Cant say enough about it.

BBB, just remember to back your drag off alittle on the hooksets otherwise you may break a fish or 2 off.

Ok before we go much further is vanish a true flouro carbon? My 2 biggest customers are plastic extruders and moulders I was shown a bag of true flouro carbon today 26lbs $1,060 Cdn that's raw material. They are making parts for the aerospace industry, the material under destructive testing will stretch 1000 percent with out breaking! Now if you add Teflon you will reduce that considerably. Not sure were all talking flouro carbon here I will go back to the engineers tomorrow!

Vanish is not 100% fluorocarbon. I think it's coated with fluorocarbon.

Bought my first florocarbon yesterday for saltwater fishing in Cuba this March. The guy at the store gave me 80 pound test. I'm not used to this stuff...it looks to fat and you have to know what your doing with tying knots. I shall give it a try.

Oh like I know! All I know is it catches salmon.. name of the game!! Oh yeah another thing , I flip it, roll it off onto a second reel and then your exposed portion becomes your backing , its tough stuff. I get two seasons . Do the math , good stuff guys.An improved clinch knot works for me.

I've used it on my cut bait rigs for salmon(30lb test) as well as for leaders between a flasher/dodger and fly combo with pretty good success. It's all I've ever used so I have nothing to guage it by as to whether it is better or not. But if it ain't broke I'm not fixin' it. I also use it for tying up walleye spinners and worm harness's (20lb).
I've seen Charlie Wray(as Markus noted) from the Fishful Thinking show promoting it too the last few years for muskie and pike and am anxious to try it. But so far I can't seem to find it locally in strengths over 30lb. I saw heavier strengths at BPS but already had too much stuff in my cart.
Next time I will pick it up in 50+ test in order to make up some Muskie and Pike leaders and give it a try.

Whoa okay, so Vanish is only coated in flouro. Then I don't really see a point. You'd still see line underneath the flourocarbon then wouldn't you?! Maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.

Hello all...

Well I started using it last year through the ice...
2lb. test...
Dynamite for panfish action...
No sooner than the jig hits the fish zone than bang set the hook

I also used it this past summer fishing smallies and largemouth with great success.
Also on the Petawawa River in Algonquin Park.
The line proved to me to be durable and dependable.
While you don't land a lot of big fish using 2lb test, you more than make up for in quantity.

It gets a big thumbs up from me!!!
Ultralight and 2lb test, try it cause it's a blast...

Keep your feet dry and your line wet.

dont know why we had bad results markus. so now its mono. musky trolling the fish really dontshy. they hit baits 5 feet from the boat so line clarity not an issue. line stregnth mono is good.. if you have good results with a product stay with it floro or mono

BBR, they coat a clear mono with fluorcarbon, but since the FC has a refractive index very close to water, it refracts light so that the clear underneath can't be seen either.

i use flouro leaders allot i clear water. i change all my fly leaders to 50 lb flouro because it is stiff so you get better action behind the dodger or flasher. i started using the same 50lb for my pike leaders but i use crimp sleaves instead of knots. i have never been bit off but you have to inspect the leader if you are fishing around rock.

i have been told that flouro does not break down in the sun like mono. it has a really long half life so if you lose a couple of hundred yards in the water your grandchildren might hook up with it. so i just stay with leader length instead of spooling up with it

I used Seaguar FW fluorocarbon (100% fluoro) for leaders on powerpro last year and reduced my brake-offs to zero. I was very impressed.
