An apology from Bobber

Hello all,

The other day there was a post made for comments on Hawgwild's website. One of those posts was made by Tony G which I quickly moderated in haste. This is just an example of how an "assumption" and an attempt at reading between the lines, when there is no text there, that can be misconstrued within regular conversation as something that is inappropriate to be posting. This is not at all what I have been asking from all of you. I guess I was having a bad day.

I was so far away from the truth and should have asked Tony privately to clarify his comments prior to taking any action. The very thing that we have been preaching to everyone, I have violated, and again..Tony...I apologize. I have been exchanging Private Messages with Tony and only hope he can forgive my hasty actions and our friendship can continue.

This just goes to show you that sometimes a "moderator" needs to be moderated themselves. I suppose we've all done it at some point in time, which has prompted me to putting a new moderation procedure in place, as many of you have already read. We will attempt to remove public moderation based on "assumption" and "opinion" and limit moderation to be handled privately within the boundaries of the rules we have documented.

Tony, please accept my apology. I can only hope that our new moderation practices will negate this type of thing from happening again. My goal is to not have to do any moderation at all.

Although I didn't see any of the specific posts that you are talking about, I can picture the senario.

As a long time user of internet forums, I have recently become an Admin/moderator on the "Urban Outdoor Adventures" message board.

It is boards like this one and many others that I have learned from over the years that have taught me how a board should be run.
We have a similar policy to the one you are talking about, on our board.

- NO open public thread moderation.
All warnings and moderation questions are handled privately.
If a problem occurs, posts are erased/edited, and and the rest of the community doesn't need to see any of it.

I think "invisible moderation" is the way to go; less heated arguments, and a happier over all vibe on the forum!

Well after bieign a semi participant to this message board. I would be hardpressed to believe that you would purposely do something to hurt someone's feelings or to embarrass anybody. As moderator you are a decision maker which involves risk. You are also human which makes you vulnerable to errors and or mistakes. It looks like the apology was accepted, so put it behind you and enjoy life! take care and keep us honest

Thanks Tony....and Gorfman thank you as well. There will always be some slip ups, some rash posts, and some assumptions that will result in friction. I can only hope that we can all resolve these differences without holding grudges against each other. No one means to intentionally tick anyone else off, I'm sure of it. Back to the fishing talk.
