Are fish in the ottawa river safe

Hi there

Was woundering if the fish coming out of the river good to eat :? I remenber butt a kid my parents where always telling us that the river was so poluted that the fish were as big as me but not good :?:

And to eat grappy's I've never talk to anybody that as. :shock:

Any info is good.

No worries with the Crappies or eyes, my wife has enjoyed both in weeks past.Just best bet (I wrote this earlier) is pick up a consumption guide and follow that to make sure you dont eat the wrong ones :wink:

Here is a link to the '05 '06 Guide to eating ontarion sport fish.

From what has been told to me what ever you plan on eating it would be best to remove and not eat the belly meat as most of the toxins end up stored in the belly meat of the fish. Also the smaller the fish and the lower on the food chain it is the better you are. So eat Cappie, pearch and small walleye and cats but do not eat 10 pound walleye and 40 pound muskie.
