New guy!!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

New guy!!!!

Post by Jersey-Man »

First post ever :D Just thought I would say hello. HELLO!!

Anyway I do a majority of my fishing at petrie island with Kodiak, It's hard to find lots of time to fish being a dairy farmer and all.

Planning on heading out to crappie bay this Sunday with the wife, brother-in-law and his girlfriend. They are all first timers at the ice fishing thing, hope they enjoy it.

Any pointers on how to find those crappies??

Thanks
Jersey-Man

Hey Jersey-Man,
Welcome aboard! Do quite a bit of icefishing for crappie myself down at Crappie Bay. Been finding the fish as of late in 10-14 feet of water. Most fish are either right on bottom, or suspended 2-4 feet up.
The lures that have worked for me have been small Marmooska Jigs, tipped with a Berkley Power Maggot, and a small silver Forage Minnow spoon, tipped with a tail of a minnow.
Fish will generally hit on the pause. Go with light line and a light action rod...
Here's a couple pics from last week. There are some good quality fish in the bay, that's for sure!!!
Enjoy the ice,
Justin

Welcome aboard Jersey Man.

You must enjoy fishing Petrie. Lots of fish species available and lots of spots to move around and try. Wish I had a good panfish and walleye spot here to drill holes that was withen a quick drive.
