Jigs... :lol: He wasn't THAT old. Besides, he was bigger than me. :lol:

One thing I did notice was that this guy didn't "jig" like I would expect to. He more or less just twitched the rod. Whatever it was, the bait, the "twitching", or just plain luck, the bluegill liked his stuff.

Thx for your advice. Next time I will try some other things. (Brian had on a Swedish Pimple, out a bit deeper, but no luck for him either. We stink!)

M.T. - my husband has tried to befriend the washing machine, but I have had to put an ax to that relationship...the clothes were changing colors. :roll:

I use dew worms all the time.....have not let me down yet!...just a tiny chunk on a 1/64th jig and ratso.....

As far as worms go, I find CIL Red Warblers (dynamite) work the best. :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
Just make sure you don't stand too close to the hole when you drop your line down. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Anyways, use a 1/16 or 1/32 oz. jig head and tip it with a 1" power craw or grub. White kills the perch around home. Just give it a little twitch, no big jig motion. The twitch is what seals the deal. Find yourself a microlight rod and you can't miss the smallest or perch or bluegill or whatever.

Big Jim gave great advice with regards to jig chioce. Always use the lightest jig possible. Light line is a must too.

Thx for the helpful info, all. Here is another conondrum: without Vexilar equip, it's not always easy to tell when your teeny tiny lightweight bait is on bottom, especially with that gossamer spidery thread they call fishing line! (currently poles are rigged with assortm't of 2, 4 and 6 lbs test). Any hints? Seems I get caught on the ice occasionally, and it tricks me.

Wolfe know how you feel on the light line tiny jig thing. Hoover and I adopted the go big or go home type fishing at the derby Sat. didn't work :oops: 1 or 2lb line is probably the way to go and alot cheaper than vexilar!

Here's my attempt at ice augering. I start them off, then Bowzog finishes them.

This was Saturday (Feb 26) at the cottage. A lot of hard work for the 5 or 6 perch we got all weekend! We tried Muskrat Lake on Sunday afternoon and then Shirley's Bay at dusk.

Here's the biggest perch we got, a 10.5 inch one by Bowzog:

Slushpuppy, I tried drilling a few holes myself this year. I only got out once and the ice was less than a foot thick, but I still had to get Markus to finish them for me.

Everytime we moved, he had to drill 2 holes for him, 2 for me, 1 for Hailee and 1 for Spencer. :lol: As bad as I felt for him, I was chuckling inside. About every 10th turn you'd hear some mumble about a power auger. :lol:

Its startes with the portable PL, and before you know it he will have that gas auger in the back of the truck and a dozen roses for you in the front seat!!

Hey, Slushy, it's a workout, isn't it?? Nice pic, though.

We went out again on Sunday for a little while, but ice fishing is apparently not my strong suit. S-K-U-N-K-E-D (though I'm fairly sure I had a hit this time). At least you got some perch & a wknd away.

The day was gorgeous and I drilled another hole. Yeah, one. :lol: This one a bit tougher, too, as the ice was thicker on this section of the lake. I finished though, and then handed the auger off to my strong, obliging husband. Hee-hee! He did about 6 or 7 more.

Who needs expensive gym equipment? Just grab an auger and get as good a workout as any Thighmaster will give you! :lol:
