Thanks for sharing fishintom. Where did you manage to catch this one and how big did it go?

I'll be the first to say that when muskie get that big it's probably best to support them horizontally instead of vertically so to minimise the risk of damage and ensure a safe release.

She went about 42".I grabbed here out of the net and grabbed a quick pic and back she went. She swam off great

Thanks Snag! they fight great but are hard to control near the boat. The
" eye" trick my uncle showed me worked wonders and the beasts settled down

Out of curiosity, what is the "eye" trick. Can't say I've ever heard of this.

caught it in the kawarthas on a spinnerbait over some weeds. 4 daysof casting and it finally paid off.

The eye trick, if you grab the fish by the eyes from behind the head it really relaxes them. It only bugs them for a minute . Do not push too hard on the eye just enough so the fish stops thrashing around

She's a biggun Tom and I bet you'll get a bigger one yet!

The grabbing the fish behind the eyes is an older technique that was once commonly used and is not highly recomended for the big girls now. I'm sure if you take advantage of an Ontario muski charter, you'll see some of the newer fish handling recomended procedures.

Congrates again on the catch. When are you planning on visiting for a go at a new personal best?

I've only gone once, but late summer into fall is a great time I believe.

You're gonna have a lot of fun if you head to the Ottawa area for Muski. Good luck.

You can catch muskie from opening day right through to closing day. I suggest mid summer, July and August. You have a great shot at a trophy this time of year as well as the possibility of multiple big fish days.

Fall fishing is fun too, and you have the chance at getting a hog. However, the weather isn't always cooperative, and fishing can be really tough.
