Steelhead in the Ganaraska

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Steelhead in the Ganaraska

Post by Junior24 »

Hey folks
Just wondering if anyone could offer some advice to a ganaraska steelhead newbie. A bunch of buddies and I are making the trip for the opener this year and I would love some suggestions on gear, lures, accomadations, spots, basically everything we need to know. Thanks a bunch

I'm sure Floatfishin will jump in here. He's just the guy to steer you in the right direction. He put me onto my first steelhead last year:

Safe to say he knows what he's doing!

Junior, 1st offf get ready for a packed house!!!The Ganny is probably the most fished watershed in the "Eastern Basin tributaries"Numbers have dramaticly reduced of fish making the move towards this area for the spawn, though, it still holds fish.

Spots, well put on your shoes and strat walkin  Alot of water to fish, and to many spots to list.

A long type, so I will send you a pm

Anyone else seeks any info send me a pm, I am going to write up a "small" post, and post it after work.

I have done it, but its more about camping and socializing with buddies for us than catching fish (on this day at least).Opener is a zoo anywhere within 2 hours of T.O. Your choice is to join in the mess or stay home with the wife. :?:

What I don't get is, why they congregate in the pools :!: At least Shelter Valley was constantly like that!

Move away from the pools to the streams and it can be fun :!: Been quite a few years since tried that but what a blast :!:

Gotta agree RJ, absolutely asinine, the chaos, the garbage, the yahoo's, the posted land. No thank you.

Alot of fish get "lined" and snagged. It's like fishing in a fish pond. I gave up on the Ganny or any other LO trib along the 401 years ago.

In my defense  I agree the madness is sickening!!!!!Though I avoid the "High Preasure" areas in all.Once the season opens up"Above Highway#2, there is a ton of water to walk, and explore to find unpreasured fish. This year the "Snaggers" will be out in full force, for they will be hitting 95% drop back fish(Spawned out)Hard to entice a fish to hit when you've got 900 roe bags in your face, and you in a pool the size of my living room

Gonna be alot of walkin in 2 weeks me thinks

It is ironic...100 anglers fishing a 20' x 20' pool and all them 100% against gill nets.  That scene is ridiculous. I stay miles away from any chaos like that.

Yeah it gets very busy and chaotic on the opening day but there is a lot of 'tribes' and room for everyone if you want to do some walking ...as usual I'll be there for first three days after opener. will report points :))
