Opening day walleye

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Well catching some eyes is on of my MAJOR goals this year, I have never caught one!!!

I'm hoping to get out on a boat with someone early this year to learn about catching them...

But first, I think I'm going to try fly-fishing for them on the Rideau!!

Should be interesting!! LOL

Well for walleye im going to start with bottom bouncing with a minnow in the deepeper channels, If that doesent work i will try some big Os ( white, perch). Than during the the evening i am just going to use a northland jig head, with a stinger, and jig with a live minnow on it. For pike im going to the deeper bays with a williams wabler, and or a husky jerk.

Dave,

The big pool below Hogs Back has always been good for eyes, especially when the season opens. The usual rig is a 1/4 oz jig with a neon twister tail grub. Last year I had a healthy 3lb+ eye there. There are also a lot of muskie that cruise the shallows feeding on perch, etc. Last season I saw 3 nice muskie caught while targeting eyes.

Tips:
1. the west side of the pool is relatively shallow and very shallow where it eddies back.

2. snags are common place so it's best to used shallow running raps or jigs with just enough weight to get down but can be bounced along with the current.

3. Check your line for nicks often. The rocks and zebra muscles there do a number on your line near your bait.
