Big bite on Quinte........Big bust!!!!!!!!!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Big bite on Quinte........Big bust!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Badger Shark »

Well the long awaited Quinte trip finally came. Myself, Jackel and another friend of mine Barney, headed down to Quinte on Friday , we arrived around 4 pm checked into our room or as we called it the shoe box. Not enough room for three guys maybe one and his stuff. Oh well it was a place to sleep. Anyway we didnt head out until 6:30am Sat. We got out just past the ferry and got set up, first line in the water and bang right away I get my new personal best, this guy....Image
So right away we are thinking man are we in for some good fishing, boy we were wrong. An hour and a half later finally another of the rod goes off and Barney pulls in his new pb eye, happy times again here is the pic....
Image

Well we were hopefull again, and after another hour Jackel gets one on, but about 100ft from the boat its doing the walleye skip and gets off
We stayed out till about 7:30 that evening trying everything we possibly could think of, every lure every depth, different lengths of line out, different speeds, but nothing caught. We did make contact with three other fish but no hookups. We finally called it a day and headed back to the shoe box of a room we had.....Image

Saturday was a new day which we hoped would bring new promise, well promisses are made to be broken it seems. We were the first boat out at around 5:45am. We once again started in the same area as before. About 2 and a half hours later it was looking like it was going to rain and the sw wind was getting chilly so we decided to erect the makeshift enclosure I designed for protection.....Image
Man it worked like a charm, I think I have found a new career, building welfare tops for boats. It cost me 30 dollars and about 4 hrs of my time, it is enclosed on three sides and was nice and toasty. Anyway while we were setting it up the drag on one of the rods goes nuts, now it was Jackels turn to fight a big guy, he didnt belive me and thought I was messing around. Well once I gave him the rod he thought otherewise and said this is a big fish. Well it was a decent fish, just not what we were after. I would of been happy with it but he wanted a big eye. It was a nice 11 lb pike......Image

While bringing in the pike the planer board came off and drifted away, goodbye 35 dollar board we couldnt find.

So we started again and another hour or so goes by and finally another rod goes, it was my turn again and it was an eye, but not a big one about 3lbs, still anice fish in my books......Image

Well we tried until sunset but the fish just were not cooperating this weekend, just bad timing I guess. But we were relieved to find out that everyone pretty much only caught a few if any fish, in fact a few people were asking us for advice which surprised us. We told them what we could to try to help them and I know it did for a couple of guys. :)

So we pulled the boat out and packed her up and headed for home, but we will be going back soon to try again.

Here are a couple mor pics....

Me in my mad walleye fishing disguise...

And my boat with the makeshift enclosure if you can see it.....

So hopefully next time we go we will have more pics of big eyes and a better report. And I really like my survival suit, it really kept me warm, even though it makes me look huge. Thats the funny thing, everywhere you looked you could see bright orange and red dots all over the water, all the other guys out there in their suits   .

So take care everyone and good luck to you guys heading there this week, hopefully you have better luck than all the people there this past weekend. 8)

Hey RJ, I figured there were some guys doing ok but the ones who we spoke to didnt have much luck either. Now this is our first crack at Quinte and we are still learning and asking for advice everyday so we can be more successful. Like anything else you have to learn. If you have any advice feel free to pass it on it is always appreciated by us.

And my makeshift welfare shelter as we called it  man I was surprised it held up to 30 mph, not bad for a quickly made job. It really did work well to cut the wind and was nice and warm with the heaters going. I just need some time to trim the plastic and adjust the tarp but other than that it worked better than I imagined and is all I can afford. I wanted to get a real enclosure built but its a little to pricey for me right now but someday I will get one made. Take care and let us know the next time your going maybe we can swing it. And hey where is your report? How did you guys do?

Hey RJ,

I would certainly like to know where those guy's were fishing. We had the VHF on all the time and the same song was on for everyone. The same words "kind of slow today" we must have heard that from at least 10 boats. Anyway still lots of fun and I'm sure we will be going back soon.

Badger Shark & Jackel,

That top will come in handy when it gets real cold...even just for a windbreak...though you do have to watch your trolling speed as it will act as a kite...Are you happy with your Alumacraft?...I've had guys ask me about them in the past and really couldn't pass on any info as I hadn't ever been in one.....looks like a sweet ride...

As far as the fishing goes....I had my 13 year old stepson Nick with me for the day....we ran our 4 rod spread...but sadly had to get off the water by 1 because Nick had a hockey game back in Kanata at 5:30....it sucked because ya just don't get wind days like that down at Quinte often..when we left we were 7 for 8...with Nick reelin in them all but 2....his arms were killin him...

He's mighty proud (and should be) of his newest Wall of Fame pic at our house....11.7 Quinte eye...

Image

As far as where we fished....well I saw ya out there....so you saw me....Blue Princecraft tiller with a Johnson on the back end...

I don't post reports on boards anymore simply because the negatives far outweigh the positives in doing so....just a personal choice I made awhile back...

You guys did have some success....and it will only get better....trolling isn't just throwing baits out the back and driving around....guys in Rangers will tell ya different...but I'll tell them throwing a bait under a dock ain't rocket science either... ....know your baits....dive curves...speeds...etc.....it's very rewarding to have success....keep at it...

I'll be at Quinte most weekends now until the ramps are frozen in.....give me a wave if ya see me...
