Struck out at Calabogie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

:?

A couple of buddies of mine from Ottawa haven't been having the greatest luck up there this spring either. It's probably not your fault saskie, that's just the way she goes sometimes.

Hey saskie, too bad about the day trip. Hoping to get to Buckham's/Constance Bay's sometime this week. Have you been out there yet?

Anyone else??

We were out last weekend and nailed a few walleye just past the mouth of Buckhams on the west side. The water drops off deeper there (can't say for sure how deep, my finder is still in SK) - I'm guessing down about 25ft.
Haven't been back since the weekend - too busy getting everything done so I can have the weekends to fish. Let me know if you do head out, that would give me an excuse to get out fishing.

Hi Saskie. I was wondering if you tried the shallow bay on the other side of the dam in Calabogie. It always seems to be a great numbers spot for medium sized pike. I hope to get back up to Calabogie soon, I love the area. Next time, I might pound Norcan\Black Donald\Centenial Lakes instead.

No - but I definitely will next time. We concentrated on breakwater, with the wind it was getting some serious wave wash. Also the bay north end until we "found" a very shallow shoal that appears to usually have a marker buoy.

Saskie, once I had the chance to figure out the lake's contour & structure a little thanks to my fishing map, I found the small opening in the dam.
The shallow, weedy bay on the other side provided constant action for pike (we caught 20-40 fish a day for a week), but they were mostly small to average sized fish. We landed a few bigger pike just off the dam on the big side of the lake, where the water dropped off to about 12-15 feet (about a hundred yards or so out from the dam...maybe a little more). Just writing about it makes me want to be out there now, instead of stuck behind a computer.......but the long wait is growing shorter and shorter :D .
