It's interesting that this topic comes up now as i'm just looking through my house/boat insurance renewal right now.... I have my boat on the house too.
It's something which we all pay too much for and lets face it we never know how good it really is until we have to use it... I actually called mine up today to send me a sheet explaining what is and isn't covered... Anything that is permenantly with the boat is covered such as trolling motor.. batteries.. electronics.. lifejackets etc... anything you place in the boat such as rods, reels lures etc... is under your house insurance as something that is temporarly away from home. I know some items you have to declare but i asked about fishing equipment and they said you didn't have to.
Also many insurances will only cover the cash replacement cost at the time something happens so there's little point in geting 20k of insurance if you're boat is only worth 10k... I've readjusted mine down this year as it has probably lost a little of it's value now.
I know i'm probably paying too much but who isn't.. i think mine is about $450 which for a 15ft with a 30hp sounds on the high side compared to some posts here.... there again at the time i got the boat i tried 4 insurance brokers and went with the one that seemed the best price and coverage.
Don't forget to pay for liability insurance.... the day you lose control of your boat run over a skier and then crash into that $500,000 cruiser is the day you'll need it !! I think i pay an extra $20 a year for it so make sure you have it.
MT yours is sounding cheap now i bet
