Mac Bay - Just for Fun and Giggles!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hmmm.... I have an opinion for/on all those Ice-Holes out there

Hit a snow pile left from an ice fishing hole on a sled doing 30-40 km/hr, wakes you up but no biggie as I have done it many times.

Hit a snow pile left from an ice fishing hole on a sled doing 100-120 km/hr, and it's called culling the heard or natural selection.

If you simply stay on the trails and don't zip around and zig-zag through areas of a lake that are unknown you won't be surprised or even find those hidden gems (i.e.: pressure heaves/cracks).

Please leave the ice/snow either piled around or next to the hole and in the spring those will be the markers we all need to stay away from. As for actual marked trails, it is wise not to drill right on top of them, why would you anyway, it sure wouldn't be too relaxing with the up and coming Darwin award winners zipping by you at 120 km/hr.

Okay that was 3 cents but who's counting

Happy New Year, Fishing and Snowmobiling everyone!!!

Cheers,
Prairieboy

Well your lucky

I've seen others hit them at the slower speeds and have had damage done to their sleds..Even at 40 km/h a stuck ski will snap.

It is just a courtesy not to leave snowpiles....

I agree anyone doing over 100 mph on a lake, before first sectioning it off or at least checking it out first is asking for problems and broken limbs.

But you know what this is F-H, where people love to disagree....

It's like High School all over again!

Boy, I haven't been here in a while but some things stay the same. Why don't we look for a reg or if one does not exist maybe take a consenus and also talk to snowmobilers and find out what the proper etiquette should be abd spread the word.

A little education goes a long way!

Me.. I always stick branches in the holes after use. Heck we even put smaller pines around the shack at times to let skidoo's know we are in the area. Yes and reflectors as well..

Nothin worse then steppin in a hole thats for sure, it happened to me last year just as I was making my holes to start fishing.

With edicate cops out there like some of us fish-hawkers can't beleive stuff like that still goes on  It's obviously one of the many safety issues anglers are faced with,
I just can't beleive how things escalate sometimes on here though guys, nice to see people who are passionate about the sport and all that pertains to it, but sometimes I wonder if some of us take it a bit far when trying to get our point across.

I'm takin out a rookie tomorow for a jig a petrie, any you guys going to be out there? I havin't been out there since first ice so I hope the bites on and the walleye don't make me look bad cause I promised him at least some little saugers

Jamsers

(disclaimer) The following comments do not represent all snowmobilers, some are quite courteous and show respect while enjoying their sport.

More often than not I agree with your posts. Wonder if you can help me understand why guys on sleds see the need to do a fly by of all the shacks on a lake. At least it seems to happen often on my lake.

Its gotten to the point that I take my paintball gun out into my portable with me. That way I can do some arsehole hunting while waiting for the next bite.

Also if the snowmobiler that ran into my dock with reflectors on it could come and help me fix the dock in the spring it would be appreciated.

I don't know why MLR.....

Same reason the guy with the tricked out mustang/camaro/firebird/charger etc feels the need to squeal tires....

Or the guy with loud exhaust pipes wants to be a pest....
Or the guy out sea-dooing at sunset when everyone is trying to enjoy a meal on the patio

The problem is, in Ontario it isn't illegal to sell "toys" to morons.
I agree that there are idiots who think its cool to blast by ice huts, and while you get annoyed you will end up getting charged if you shoot at em.

I ride on the trails and go to the tracks (when we have snow  ) I stay off the lakes with mine. If I see a group of huts I stay the hell away...unless of course the jingle huts have been put smack dab by the route.

Which lake are you on BTW???

Now I skidoo and sometimes I like to wind it up on the ice but only in secluded areas as I have rolled a skidoo before and it is less embarrasing when no one can see you  ...But here is the real question. If the laws state 50km/h is max speed on trails and ice then why do we sell 700, 900, Thundercats etc to everyday people who do not race them. They will never use the power so why get it. My sled is a Polaris 340...does about 70MPH tops and I have had it since 1991. It does go fast but if it goes faster then the limits posted then what good are the other sizes?????? Well the answer is simple and should explain why idiots drive past you on the ice..................................................................

We as men need to show off. Pretty simple answer if you ask me. Does not matter if we know you or not...We will take any opportunity to show off for people. That is why we need to squeel our tires, rev up our bike with dual tip exhaust..etc...etc...etc. Any man who disagrees with this needs a reality check and needs to get out of denile. It is built into our subconsience to be the best so the woman will choose you. Caveman mentallity.

I agree Pete,

Caveman mentallity....
But when no women are visibly present?????
Does that mean your trying to impress dudes   ?????

No I agree with you. Everyone wants the biggest and baddest. Your right if we bought for practicality then we'd buy the 6-banger mustang instead of the V-8. I mean both will do 100 km/h right???

As for sleds. The 600cc is all they use for snow-cross at the X-games level. Nothing bigger.
The 800 gives better acceleration through turns. But on the flat out their isn't too much difference between the 600-800. Why you would want a 1000 is beyond me??? Heavy, use alot of gas, higher in insurance and the list goes on.

But why these guys would blast by MLR's ice hut when it is clearly marked is not showing off, its stupidity. What if he'd suddentlu opened his door, a child ran out etc???

If your on sleds ok go fast on the lake, rev up etc. But do it as far away from the other lake users as possible.

See when God created lakes and rivers he put the good fish closest to shore. Agreed that some are suspended around mid-lake humps but the majority are by the shore. The middle is usually deep in a God-created lake.....

SO the fisherman can fish the shallows for fish and the boaters and sea-dooers can have the middle....

Natural balance
