The guy in the yellow Canoe on Dog Lake...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My mistake. Where is the boat that goes sooo fast then?. I assumed its a bass boat. My bad.

Just want to see a pic so I'll know to row to shore in advance when I see it coming...

I love the little man in a canoe!

Todd B. wrote:The discussion peaked my interest so I decided to reread the boating regulations.

No where could I find a reference requiring an operator to slow down when passing a canoe, etc. Rather the regulations simply state that it is the operator's responsibilty ensure that their wake (or wash) does not cause a canoe, rowboat, etc to capsize. It all boils down to the "safe" operation of your boat.

Now the side discussion regarding No Wake Zones and Speed Limits, if they're posted everyone is legally required to abide by them. The bass boats may not throw the same wake as a deep V, unfortunately they don't receive any special status if when the restictions are posted.
I intentionally hesitated from responding to Carmine's original post as I sensed that he was not speaking/writing as an experienced boater and didn't want start a p*ssing* contest.

We can debate the cause/effects of various types of wakes at varying speeds/distances, but at the end of the day, if your wake *causes* a capsize and someone gets injured or, God forbid, causes someone to drown...YOU as the operator of the boat can be held responsible and be charged with reckless driving causing injury/death..same as a motor vehicle.

"Everyone is criminally negligent who in doing anything, or in omitting to do anything that it is his duty to do, shows wanton or reckless disregard for the lives or safety of other persons." (http://www.duhaime.org/LegalResources/T ... ssels.aspx)

What does it hurt to slow down for perhaps 2-3 minutes affording the canoeist/kayaker (or any smaller non-powered craft) time to adjust or prepare, wait for a wave of the hand as a gesture of thanks or as an all clear.

We all want to be on the water enjoying all that it has to offer. It CAN be done safely, but we all have to do our part to avoid tragedy.

Thanks for everone's input on this thread, hopefully it can be an educational experience for some.

 Some people cannot afford a very expensive, bigger boat. Also, some people choose to go out in a kayak/canoe.

C'mon man..

Big difference between complaining and informing...but you are 16 and know everything...Good thing those 18 wheelers throw a small wake behind them :?

Awww c'mon Pete!

When you were 16 you too wanted the fastest and baddest!
Now that you of age to buy this stuff you don't really want too!

A Lamborghini is a little impractical with the wee ones and all!

Carmine13: I think the point is that just because your boat goes like $hit off a shovel, doesn't mean you should always drive it like that and that smaller craft should just "get out of the way"...survival of the fittest as you say.

I think we can all agree that playing nice and sharing the lake is important.

I know in tourneys when WE'RE on the bass boat and some tool comes 20ft from the boat, blasting by in his boat we don't like it!

Just best to use common sense and also common courtesty when cruising among other fishermen, whether they are in canoes or other watercraft. I figure if they're fishing, I'm going to respect that and slow it down for a bit. I have to say, it is a rare thing when the shoe is on the other foot and I am the one who is fishing, hoping for someone else to slow it down.

The kids and I had a teenaged girl scream between us and the (very close) shoreline on a Seadoo when we were casting topwater last month. She could clearly see my young kids and had a little kid riding behind her as well. Tyler dubbed her "Moronique". I'm with him. Taking her age into consideration and the devil-may-care attitude that comes with it, it's no surprise. But I was POd nonetheless. It reinforced my intense hatred of those obnoxious, droning Seadoos and the low expectations I have from most of the people using them. They crave attention.

It's not hard to be aware, slow down and be courteous to other people enjoying the lake, especially those in canoes, kayaks or paddleboats.

Ahhh..the curteous seadooers....

I'm sure breaking out the 80lb power pro and an 8" Believer could slow them down. LMAO
