So here's what I've come up with aside from a room in a Church somewhere, though I haven't made any calls in regards to that yet. I may have to ask a favor of one of you to call some Ottawa Churches to inquire on my behalf as my long distance phone bill to Canada is getting rather large at this point.. hehe.
I made calls ALL day yesterday and the best deal I've come up with so far is this:
The City of Ottawa Community Centre in Cyrville (I actually don't know where this is as I've never been there before, but from what I understand it's more or less central Ottawa) offers a room to fit up to 40 people for $5.34 per hour. The only catch is that someone has to sign a contract and book in advance and it has to be two hours minimum. For example, if you guys want to do this once a week for two hours, you have to pay one month in advance. So that will roughly be about $50-60 per month.
Maybe we can start a list of people who are definitely interested enough to show up as often as possible.. decide if this will be weekly or bi-weekly or once a month.. and then maybe we can try to have everyone pitch in on the cost of renting the room.
They offer catering, but I thought that was a bit fancy. Everyone can bring their own supplies and their own snacks.. a potlock. Also bring their own tackle and pictures and stuff on the first day to kinda tell stories and get to know each other in person, if you all haven't met each other yet.
So, that is the cheapest I've found out so far. Anyone willing to make some calls to local Churches for me just to inquire about free rooms for get togethers? I would appreciate the help. The only thing I ask is if you can try and make it around the downtown to east end Ottawa as my father relies on OC Transpo and bussing can be a pain in the butt if the routes aren't frequent.
As I said before, this is my first time trying to organize something like this, especially from so far away! hehe. So let me know what you guys think about the community centre or Church idea.. maybe someone can start a poll to see how many people would be willing to do this.
I need help on where to go from here.
Thanks!
